Masonry is the work people walk on and look at every day, so the flat, level and square part of it is most of the job. Pavers, brick, block and stone all move if what is underneath them moves, which means the base is the part that decides whether a walkway still looks right in ten years. Compacted base, proper depth, and somewhere for water to go.

We build and restore driveways, walkways, sidewalks, porches, steps and stoops, and we repoint and rebuild masonry walls. We also do waterproofing and sealant work, which is usually cheaper than the repair it prevents.

On chimneys, we repoint, rebuild from the roofline up where the brick is past saving, recast crowns, and redo flashing as part of a roof or on its own. Most chimney leaks are not the chimney, they are the flashing where the chimney comes through the roof.

Around here the thing that breaks masonry is the freeze thaw cycle. Water gets into a joint or under a slab, freezes, expands and lifts. That is why steps pull away from a porch, why pavers go wavy, and why a retaining wall starts to lean. Drainage behind a wall and under a patio is not an upgrade, it is the reason the wall is still standing.
